Daniel is a “pracademic”: As a practitioner, he is the Founder of Lightbulb Capital in Hong Kong and Singapore. Previously, Daniel was the CIO of the Modular Blockchain Fund at Modular Asset Management and earlier, the COO of HSBC Securities in Singapore. Before entering the digital asset industry, Daniel worked in traditional finance for 15 years, mostly leading technology teams at investment banking institutions like UBS, Barclays Capital, and HSBC.
As an academic, Daniel is an Affiliate Faculty Member at Singapore Management University (SMU), where he teaches courses on Cryptography, Blockchain & Digital Assets, and Decentralized Finance (DeFi). He has published articles on Security Tokens, ICOs, and cryptocurrency issuer disclosures. His research focuses on blockchains’ sustainability characteristics and the governance of decentralized organizations and has been published by various academic journals. Daniel’s work has been accepted by large publishers, including Springer, MIT Press, and Wiley. He is also the Associate Editor-In-Chief of World Scientific’s “Annual Review of Fintech” journal.
Daniel has contributed to many events as a speaker, including Mainnet in New York, the FinTech Festival in Singapore, the Alternative Investment Summit in Dubai, and the Mobile World Conference 2024. Media like Bloomberg, Coindesk, and ESG Investor have featured him.
He has recently completed a book with co-author Sandy Oh titled “Decentralized Autonomous Organizations: How Finance Can Interact with Blockchain-based DAOs”.
Daniel is completing his PhD in Finance at Erasmus University in 2024 and holds Master’s degrees in Innovation from SMU and Finance from IE Business School.
